Tsunami swimmers had several great swims with new team records set at the 2014 Long Course Virginia Swimming Age Group Champs meet held July 24-27 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
LONDON – Missy Franklin and Matt Grevers won gold Monday in the 2012 Olympic Swimming competition, taking the women’s and men’s 100m backstroke. Franklin’s time of 58.33 was an American record. Grevers’ time of 52.16 was an Olympic record.
American swimmers won a total of four medals on the third night of competition at the Aquatic Center, with Nick Thoman and Rebecca Soni picking up a pair of silvers in the men’s 100m back and the women’s 100m breaststroke.
That brings Team USA’s medal tally in the pool to 12 – four gold, five silver and three bronze.
Also worth noting is that with the Americans’ four medals tonight, the United States has won a total of 500 Olympic medals in the pool since the advent of the modern Olympic Games in 1896. The next closest team, Australia, has accumulated a total of 153 medals after Monday night.
